Bid-ready guide

Get bid-ready

Most government bids ask for the same basics. Sort these out once and you can respond to a tender within days.

01

Register on the CSD

National Treasury's Central Supplier Database. Free, and you get a supplier number starting with MAAA. Most buyers can't pay you without it.

secure.csd.gov.za
02

Get your tax compliance PIN

Request a Tax Compliance Status PIN on SARS eFiling. Buyers use it, or your CSD record, to check your tax affairs.

SARS eFiling
03

B-BBEE certificate or affidavit

Small businesses (EMEs, and many QSEs that are at least 51% black-owned) can use a sworn affidavit. It feeds into your preference points.

dtic.gov.za
04

CIDB grading for construction

Your grade (1 to 9) sets the contract size you can bid on; your class sets the work: CE civil, GB building, EB electrical, ME mechanical.

cidb.org.za
05

Know the SBD forms

SBD 1 invitation, SBD 3 pricing, SBD 4 bidder's disclosure, SBD 6.1 preference points. Municipalities call them MBD forms. Sign every one.

06

Understand 80/20 and 90/10

Price earns 80 points and the buyer's specific goals 20, for tenders up to R50 million. Above that it's 90/10. Claim your goals on SBD 6.1.
